Watch D.O.G.S at Olson

Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers and father figures whose presence on campus demonstrates the importance of education while providing an extra set of eyes to enhance school security and reduce bullying!

At Olson this means showing up, jumping in, and being a part of your child's school day as a positive male role model. Watch D.O.G.S. spend time with students, help teachers and staff, lend a hand around campus, and, most importantly, give our kids another familiar grown-up cheering them on.

How to Join the Pack

1. Join the Watch D.O.G.S. email list by clicking HERE
2. Join PTA HERE- this is a new requirement and a quick registration with no extra volunteer requirement. If you're not sure if you're a member, we can check for you.
3. Complete Allen ISDs Background Check HERE- this has to be renewed every year after July 1st and can take up to 2 weeks for clearance so get this done ASAP.
4. Purchase an official Watch D.O.G.S. Shirt HERE- Grab a blue or green shirt to match Olson school colors and use the code 4EVERYCHILD for a discount.

New Ways to Volunteer

Personalized Watch D.O.G.S Day at Olson:

• You pick the day
• You pick half or full day time frame
• Spend time in your kids classes
• Visit other grade levels
• Help in “specials” classes like art, PE, and music

Other Watch D.O.G.S. Volunteer Opportunities: 

• Arrival duty – welcome students in the drop off line from 7:15am-7:45am
• Help set up Olson family events like the Ice Cream Social, Fall Fest, Grub with the Grinch, etc.
• Grill lunch for students and staff on Field Day in May
• Other special school projects asked by Principal Dr. Ivey

These are extra opportunities to hang out with other dads and make a difference in your kid’s school, with added flexibility around work schedules as they are mostly before and after school! Click HERE to see what else Watch D.O.G.S. can do for our school!

Your Watch D.O.G.S. Day

Arrive at Olson at 7:20am to park in the designated Watch D.O.G.S. parking spot. Head straight to the office to check in where you'll receive an ID badge and your printed schedule customized for you and your child(ren).

The day will start with arrival duty - welcoming students to school before the bell rings, being introduced on the morning announcements, then progressing through your custom schedule. The schedule will include several opportunities to spend time with your child(ren) and other students in homeroom classes, “specials” classes like art and PE, and recess. You’ll enjoy lunch with your child on the stage and also spend some time in the café, library, and other areas assisting staff and students as needed. And, don’t worry, there are a few breaks built in to your day to make a cup of coffee, check emails, or sit down before your next rotation begins!

The day will end with dismissal duty – assisting students to their cars and lots of goodbye high fives! Return to the office to turn in your badge and then head home for a well-deserved rest after busy day around 3:10pm.

*If you selected a half day experience, your day typically ends after lunch with your child. Please make sure to check out at the office and enjoy the rest of your day!

Last Minute Tips as You Prepare for Duty

• Wear your official Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt! This helps staff and students easily identify you.
• Wear comfortable shoes! You’ll be busy and definitely get your steps in so comfortable footwear is a must.
• If you need to use the restroom, please use the designated adult restrooms near the café or in the teacher’s lounge.
• We understand you’ve pressed pause on other obligations to spend time at Olson. If you need to take a phone call or check an email, please use your break times and step into the teacher’s lounge away from students.
• Remember to have FUN!
